Munch, van Gogh, Cézanne and Renoir, how could you possibly be disappointed with a line-up like that?
While the Kunsthalle is undergoing a major renovation, the collection on display has been reduced and a few people had some negative things to say on Tripadvisor. While I would certainly agree that I would have been happy to see more for the price of admission, I certainly wasn’t disappointed either.
In fact, because the collection was smaller, I was able to focus on some artists that I’d never heard of before and have fallen in love with the colours in La Blanche et la Noire, 1913, by Félix Vallotton and The Negro Avenged, by Johann Heinrich Füssli.
It was certainly enough to satiate my appetite for oil and canvas for a while and on a grey day art can perform magic on the soul.
